Mold lines are omnipresent in all model kits except vinyl, because of the way they are made. Usually, molds of new plastic model kits are made very considerably to arrange the mold lines at the edges, so there is no need to take care of them. However, due to the shape of certain parts, there is no way to avoid leaving the mold line. These include guns that are formed by only one piece, many small accessories, and also plastic car bodies.
Name
This is one example of a piece that has a huge visable mold line. The shape around the mold line is round, due to this, the only safe way to remove the mold line is to use a sandpaper to polish. This is a no brainer so I will not elaborate.
Name
This is the same piece, but we are looking at the side which is flat. Sanding is tiring, right? Therefore, there are better alternatives to sanding.
Name
Before we try to take care of the mold line, we have to cut it out first. Then, we can use a knife, scrape along the mold line with the blade perpendicular to the piece. Scrape in one direction for a few times, avoid using too much force.
Name
In no time, the mold line has already disappeared. Use some fine sandpaper to polish the surface a bit and it's done! Not only is the technique fast, you can also make sure the surface is still flat afterwards.
